A specific diagnosis is listed for each of the 1,799 pediatric surgery patients treated
by a university service in a large general hospital for a 5-year period. The complications
and causes of death are discussed. Reduction in mortality rate will depend largely
on improved knowledge and care of newborn surgery patients.
