Abstract
- 1.1. The results of a study comparing the effectiveness of treatment of localized lymphomas by irradiation with treatment by surgical removal, with and without post-operative irradiation, is presented.
- 2.2. The statistics derived indicate that patients who receive the benefits of surgical removal of all known disease have a much better prognosis than those who receive roentgen-ray therapy alone as given in the cases in this analysis.
- 3.3. The evidence suggests that in many instances the lymphomas will begin and remain in a localized stage which is amenable to aggressive surgical therapy and that this therapy can prevent further progression and dissemination of the disease process.
- 4.4. The study suggests that nonradical operations, provided that there is complete removal of all lymphomatous disease, may achieve cure as readily as more radical procedures.
- 5.5. Further investigation of the possible effects of irradiation when given by difficult techniques and dosages may be of extreme importance and will be pursued further in subsequent studies.
