- 1.1. The properties of silicone rubber which contribute to its suitability for surgical implantation are described and several surgical applications presently used are noted.
- 2.2. Some difficulties of established methods of molding silicone rubber are recorded.
- 3.3. A postforming technique which facilitates the preparation of silicone rubber implants of intricate shapes is presented: the implant is vulcanized in a mold of comparatively simple design and can then be given intricate curvatures without the need for additional complex and expensive molds.
- 4.4. A simple apparatus for executing this postforming operation is described.
- 5.5. The physicochemical processes taking place in the rubber are discussed.
