      Abstract

      The results of an international investigation and a review of the existing literature on beta-islet cell tumors are reported. Of the 1,067 well-documented cases of insulinoma, 12 were from the personal experience of the authors. Common clinical aspects and the diagnostic investigations primarily used are described, with details of arteriography. Treatment was investigated in particular on the basis of the cases gathered. Medical treatment, indications, effects of various drugs, surgical treatment, incidence of operations, death rate, complications, and postoperative results are reported.
