Hyperparathyroidism caused by a solitary parathyroid adenoma or multigland disease can occur in association
with other malignancies. Parathyroid hyperplasia occurs in association with pancreatic
endocrine tumors or medullary thyroid carcinoma in patients with MEN 1 or MEN 2, respectively.
Occasionally patients with hyperparathyroidism can present with synchronous or metachronous
malignancies, most commonly well-differentiated thyroid carcinoma, renal cell carcinoma,
and bladder cancer. An association between hyperparathyroidism and polycythemia vera
has been described,

and there is a suggestion that surgical cure of the hyperparathyroidism may induce
remission of the myeloproliferative disorder. We describe a patient who demonstrated
