Dr Christopher McHenry (Cleveland, OH): Can you speculate on why you think this is occurring? Black patients
often have more severe disease and thus have higher PTH levels. Intuitively, you would
expect that they would be more likely to undergo an operation as a result of higher
PTH levels. Furthermore, White patients are probably more likely to have a kidney
transplant. As a result, you’re leaving a greater Black population to undergo parathyroidectomy
as opposed to renal transplantation. Can you comment on this?
