Abstract
It is our opinion that the severely thyrotoxic patients have been benefited by the
administration of vitamin B1. Not only is the nutritional state improved, as evidenced by increased appetite and
weight gain, but also patients with severe hyperthyroidism can be adequately prepared
for operation in a shorter time. That the vitamin treated cases showed a greater fall
in heart rate during the preparatory period suggests that the tachycardia may have
been due, in part, to a vitamin B deficiency and, therefore, was improved by the administration
of adequate amounts of this vitamin.
